Casamigos – Money, tequila and love...

With a list of famous friends that includes Cathy Guetta, Bill Murray, Kevin Spacey, Channing Tatum, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Aniston, Bono and Oprah Winfrey it hardly comes as a surprise that Casamigos Tequila – the creation of movie superstar, George Clooney and his friends, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman – is taking the world – and Ibiza – by storm!

After its star-studded European launch last August at The Tower Ushuaïa’s Rooftop UP! Ibiza Sky Lounge Casamigos Tequila is fast becoming the drink of choice for connoisseurs of fine liquors across the island. The exclusive party, attended by such resident VIPS as George Clooney, Rande Gerber, Mike Meldman, Cindy Crawford, Amal Clooney, James Blunt and his wife, Sophia Wellesley, DJ Avicii and make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury was one of last season’s most attention-grabbing media events and was widely covered by the international press. Other invitees included the British rapper, singer-songwriter and producer, Taio Cruz, and the renowned fashion and portrait photographer, Mario Testino.

Now in its second season on the White Island, Casamigos can be found at discerning bars across the island, where it is drunk on the rocks or turned into highly quaffable premium cocktails such as tequila margarita or sunrise. Aficionados can even have a go at mixing it at home following Clooney’s very own recipes: the spicy cucumber margarita, flora rosa, or the peach amigo. The award-winning, hand-distilled drink, which comes in three varieties: Blanco, Reposado and Añejo, is going from strength to strength, garnering prizes at top wine and spirits competitions around the world and, fittingly, making firm friends as it does so.

It is manufactured from high quality Blue Weber agaves found in the Highlands of the Pacific coast province of Jalisco in Mexico. Only the finest examples of this blue-green, cactus-like plant are handpicked and then lovingly fermented before being left to age for a period of up to seven months in American oak barrels, resulting in smooth, sophisticated liquid. In the heady atmosphere of Ibiza in high summer, could it be possible to find a more suitable spirit for the island’s all-night revellers?

WATERMELON MINT MARGARITA

1 1⁄2 Parts Casamigos Reposado Tequila
3/4 Parts Fresh Lime Juice 4 Parts Muddled Watermelon
1/2 Part Simple Syrup
67 Mint Leaves

Muddle mint and watermelon, add remaining ingredients, shake, fine strain over fresh ice.
Garnish: Mint Sprig and Lime Wedge

THE THREE AMIGOS

1 Part Casamigos Blanco Tequila
1 Part Fresh Pink Grapefruit Juice
1 Part Aperol

Shake ingredients with ice then strain and serve on the rocks or straight up.
Garnish: Pink Grapefruit Wedge

CASAMIGOS MARGARITA

1 1/2 Parts Casamigos Blanco Tequila
3/4 Part Fresh Lime Juice
1/4 Part Fresh Orange Juice
1/3 Part Agave Nectar
1/3 Part Orange Liqueur

Combine all ingredients to iced mixing glass. Shake vigorously for 10 count. Pour all contents into a rocks glass with or without salted rim.
Garnish: Lime Wedge

SPICY CUCUMBER JALAPEÑO MARGARITA

1 1⁄2 Parts Casamigos Blanco Tequila
3/4 Part Fresh Lime Juice
1/3 Part Orange Liqueur
1/3 Part Simple Syrup
3 Cucumber Wheels
1 Jalapeño Slice

Muddle cucumber, jalapeño, lime juice, and simple syrup. Combine all ingredients to iced mixing glass. Shake vigorously for 10 count. Fine strain all contents into a rocks glass with or without salted rim.
Garnish: Cucumber and Jalapeño Slice
