Trattoria del Mar, Open all year round

The Trattoria del Mar at Marina Botafoch remains open for diners throughout the winter months. The D’Ambrosio family have only been running this restaurant since early this summer but they have already succeeded in making it one of the Island’s top addresses for lovers of Italian cooking. And no wonder, because while chef Luciano beavers away in the kitchen with the help of mama and papa, brothers Antonio and Alessandro are providing superb service at front of house. When it comes to buying in supplies, they attach great value to fresh natural produce which is then prepared to mama’s very own Neapolitan recipes. Even the pastas such as pappardelli (great with lobster), tagliatelli, fettuccini, ravioli and taglierini are made on the spot.

And as is expected of typical Italian fare, they are dab hands at various types of risotto. Alongside Mediterranean fish and meat specialities, there is also a huge selection of dishes made from wholesome vegetables that is proving very popular – and not just with vegetarians. So in addition to a purely vegetable platter, there are several soups and pasta dishes based on vegetable ingredients. But of course, there is also a wide variety of seafood dishes and a wine list with superb selection of Spanish and Italian vintages including such top labels as ‘Flor de Pingus’ and ‘Sassicaia Tenuta San Guido’.

The lunch menu changes on a frequent basis and has proved immensely popular. You can choose between three starters, three main courses and a selection of desserts. Now that cooler temperatures are setting in, it is still very pleasant to take lunch on the sheltered terrace of the Trattoria and to admire the view across the harbour towards Dalt Vila. But evenings are also a good time to enjoy the pleasant atmosphere in this friendly and intimate restaurant.

And – as if proof were needed – the fare here demonstrates that Neapolitan cooking consists of more than just pizza. In any case, that’s not even on the menu. The Trattoria is not open on Tuesdays but for any other day of the week you can make reservations on 971 193 934.
