In little less than a month, the season will draw to a close and once again Space Ibiza will post some healthy figures for the 2008 financial year. As the season got underway, there were plenty of innovations in the air which had us all guessing what this epicentre of the music world held in store. Our expectations were not disappointed. The 2008 season has undoubtedly brought us some tremendous premieres with Thursday’s Be@Space event, the first really in-house club party with resident DJs Danny Tenaglia, Wally López, Elio Riso and the spectacular magicomical performances by Foc i Fum, worth a special mention. As a result, Thursday night at Space has become one of the most important fixtures on the Island calendar
One of the other major premiere surprises has to be the Friday sessions organised by Madrid-based outfit Goa. After 13 years in the business, this creative team have established a reputation, both in the Spanish capital and beyond, for being part of the musical avant-garde. Now they have won over admirers here in Ibiza with the sheer professionalism of their production and music content.
During this party season, Space has consolidated its excellent standing and has made sure that summer 2008 has been one to remember for the quality of island events. Owner Carl Cox continues to direct the programme personally on Tuesdays and the friends he has brought in to co-organise this party attraction have produced some astonishing results. The Wednesday party staged by the tireless Brasilio de Oliveira has attracted clubbers in their droves and enchanted them with La Troya in a crazy/humorous mood. The weekends continue to be dominated by the Spaniards and the Brits. On Saturdays, it’s Matinee time, the favourite event for thousands of Spanish clubbers, who start arriving around 6pm to listen to the ‘Bailongo’ house music on offer. Sundays belong without a doubt to We Love. The UK organiser can look back on 10 great party years at Space. Six areas and the best DJs currently around is the winning formula.
But now we are getting closer to the event that forms the climax to the whole season. Prominent DJs and spectacular performances will keep the audience well entertained during the most famous of all closing fiestas. On 5th October from 12 midday onwards, over 50 DJs, dancers, performance artists, acrobats and live performers will step up during this incomparable Space party to take their leave of the fabulous summer of 2008 and to bring together the crème de la crème of partygoers. Simply unmissable.
