The photographer and performance artist Tom Leather visited Ibiza at the invitation of editor Jürgen Bushe. Together, they embarked on an art project under the working title Ibiza – Isla Blanca. Both had been shocked by the tsunami and the nuclear disaster at Fukushima and shared a sense that the fates of Ibiza and Japan are intertwined. Because at the same time that white is the colour of mourning in Japan, it is also the symbolic colour of the island of Ibiza. Japan and Ibiza are both islands. And if you believe the prophecies of Nostradamus, then Ibiza will be the last refuge of humanity from a nuclear armageddon.
A highlight of this art performance was staged in the studio of prominent Spanish painter Antonio Villanueva. This is where the first works in this series were given artistic form, both photographically and on canvas.
The project was subsequently continued at numerous iconic locations around the Island, and its progress was captured in a video documentary.
During the 14-day collaboration, the outcome and contours of the project were clarified the final title crystallised:
The initiators and contributors to this project wish to express their sympathy with the people of Japan. The photographs and the paintings by Antonio Villanueva will go on display from 18th July to 23rd August in an exhibition at the Blue Marlin Ibiza.
The works themselves will be auctioned at the charity evening* on 23rd July.
With all proceeds going to benefit the victims of the Fukushima disaster – however small a small gesture this may be. During the opening, we also plan to show the video documentary. The initiators wish to thank everyone who made this project possible – sponsors, models, supporting companies and designers.
More activities are planned. BE PART OF IT!

No, no, no. We are neither trying to be nostalgic nor debating the virtues of analogic vs digital again but simply informing you that every Thursday in the bar of Las Dalias you have the chance to dust down the vinyl collection...
Cala Bassa is in the news this month and not precisely because it is the best moment to enjoy the beach from one of CBBC beachbeds – which are fantastic – but because of the arrival of the City of Ibiza quadriathlon to celebrate its 12th edition.
This year it will be 40 years since the first fashion show that gave rise to Pasarela Adlib. To celebrate it, the Island Council has organised an exhibition that it has called 'The Adlib Revolution'.
