Seafaring folk have always been people with deep-rooted beliefs. Boarding a boat and travelling at the mercy of the currents requires valour and a degree of faith.
The Virgin of Carmen is the protector of those brave men and, as only could be, her natural environment is the sea. Every 16th of July Ibiza’s sailors take her out for a ride in boats that are decorated with garlands of flowers. It is a beautiful tradition that is especially celebrated in Portinaxt and Es Cubells.
