\u201cWe bought this little teardrop trailer,\u201d Jules says with a nostalgic grin. \u201cThe dream was to drive up the American coast, calling venues and saying, \u2018Hey, we\u2019ll be in town next week \u2013 want us to play a show?\u2019 Our agent had other ideas, mapping out polished tours in 5,000-seat venues. But we turned it down in favour of raw, unfiltered nights in unpretentious bars and modest pop-ups \u2013 playing to curious crowds who had no idea what was coming.\u201d

After the trailer came a boat, inspired by YouTube adventurers Sailing La Vagabond. \u201cWe kept it up until after Meadow, our daughter, was born,\u201d Katie laughs, \u201cbut early motherhood living on water wasn\u2019t quite the dream I\u2019d signed up for!\u201d<\/p>\n

What they found wasn\u2019t just a new base, but something they\u2019d been chasing across continents: space to just be, and to live entirely free. \u201cIbiza is super laid back, a bit bohemian, easy breezy,\u201d Katie describes. \u201cYou can be whatever version of yourself you want to be here. It\u2019s got all sorts!\u201d
\nNow, the island\u2019s creative pulse beats through their latest album, Home \u2013 their first in seven years. Far from the all-night clubs and electronic scene that shape Ibiza\u2019s global reputation, Katie and Jules found inspiration in something unexpected: the soft rock sounds of late-\u201970s icons like Fleetwood Mac, Dire Straits, The Carpenters, and The Eagles. \u201cWe hear this kind of music a lot here,\u201d Jules says. \u201cIt\u2019s got a laid-back feel \u2013 a bit like California. That road trip energy guided our sound.\u201d<\/p>\n
The album\u2019s origin story feels like a quiet rebellion of doing things their way. \u201cWe just didn\u2019t know if we\u2019d ever tour as The Ting Tings again after having Meadow,\u201d Katie explains. \u201cBut we weren\u2019t writing for anyone else \u2013 just for the joy of it.\u201d
\nThe couple recently ticked off a long-held dream by playing at Can Jordi Blues Station, a dusty, no-frills bar tucked away in San Josep. \u201cWe wanted to play there from the moment we arrived,\u201d Katie says with a smile. \u201cPerforming on the porch at sunset was raw and intimate \u2013 exactly what we needed. But honestly, we\u2019re itching to hit festivals next summer \u2013 these songs were made for that stage.\u201d<\/p>\n
Their idea of success has shifted since their early chart-topping days. \u201cThe real win is making it to our fifth album, embracing family, and building a life that\u2019s healthy and sustainable,\u201d Jules reflects. \u201cMost artists burn out after years on the promo and touring treadmill. It\u2019s not a normal way to live. We\u2019ve kept each other grounded.\u201d<\/p>\n
Looking ahead, they\u2019re committed to the slow burn they\u2019ve carved out. \u201cWe\u2019re fully independent now, so with the album out, the real work begins \u2013 growing it steadily and finding the right audience,\u201d Katie explains. \u201cWe\u2019ve learned one thing: when the songs come, you keep writing.\u201d
