One of the exhibitors at Urban in Ibiza, Inkie \u2013 aka Tom Bingle \u2013 is an artist that\u2019s undeniably symbolic of change in society. Nicknamed \u2018Kingpin\u2019 in the late 80s, he led a graffiti movement that subsequently resulted in him and 72 other street artists being arrested in 1989 in a huge police operation. Tagged as a hero by his followers and a criminal by authorities, it\u2019s ironic that more than 20 years later the artist once dubbed a \u2018vandal\u2019 is up there with the UK\u2019s top contemporary artists and his signature \u2018ink nouveau\u2019 style is celebrated all over the world.<\/p>\n

\"INKIE_IBIZASTYLE-010\"Tom himself describes his style as \u201cArt Nouveau meets graffiti with a touch of pre-Raphaelite\/William Morris thrown in\u201d and on witnessing the colourful portraits in Atzar\u00f3 during Urban in Ibiza of beautiful women with defined features and long flowing hair, you can see exactly what he means.<\/p>\n

\u201cUrban in Ibiza is a fantastic event in a great location and I feel very proud to be part of what Dizzi has achieved,\u201d he says, \u201cit\u2019s very unique and I really don\u2019t think there is anything that comes close to it on the island.\u201d<\/p>\n

Citing the location itself as well as the variety of performers plus \u201cthe opportunity to showcase work to a culturally aware and diverse crowd\u201d as the elements that stand out about Urban in Ibiza, it\u2019s fair to say that this particular exhibition is close to his heart.<\/p>\n

First introduced to the island by Paul \u2018Dizzi\u2019 Saunders around seven years ago when they were planning the first Urban in Ibiza event, Tom\u2019s now a massive fan of the island for its \u201cnatural beauty, weather, nightlife, food and most importantly the people.\u201d He visited on eight separate occasions last year. \u201cYou can never have enough time here,\u201d he adds, adding that he loves coming to paint, relax and see friends. He also just painted the front of Boutique Hostal Salinas.<\/p>\n

When back in the UK\u00a0he runs a design studio in West London where he creates artwork incorporating his beautiful trademark aesthetic on large-scale pieces. In the past, Tom worked as head of design for SEGA Europe and Xbox and interestingly, until recently, as Ibiza veteran Jade Jagger\u2019s in-house designer.<\/p>\n

He\u2019s had recent exhibitions in Copenhagen, Barcelona, Los Angeles, Gothenburg, Warsaw and Lisbon as well as London and of course Ibiza, and is well known in the contemporary art scene for his dedication to raising money for charity too.<\/p>\n

Hence his achievements speak for themselves and the status he enjoys today is a far cry from the \u2018notorious\u2019 reputation he once had when he used\u00a0to\u00a0run the risk of being arrested for his art.<\/p>\n

But that\u2019s not to say these\u00a0weren’t\u00a0good times.\u00a0\u201cTo be honest it was half the fun of it,\u201d says Tom on being hunted by the police, \u201cand a real adrenaline rush. Plus, a piece executed illegally always garnered more respect than a commission or legal wall.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>
