Beginning his hospitality career on Ibiza in the late ‘90s, Danny Gómez has not only witnessed the island’s transformation closely but, as a longstanding executive within the Matutes Group and Global Partnerships Director across its business portfolio – including one of its main hospitality assets, Palladium Hotel Group – has been among the influential industry figures helping shape its evolution with a long-term vision and deep understanding of the destination.
Born in Palma de Mallorca, Danny’s family moved to Ibiza in 1981. Since then, he says, “the island has always been home for me. Growing up in Ibiza has given me a strong connection to the island, its lifestyle, and its international environment, which I truly value both personally and professionally.”
From its free-spirited, bohemian beginnings to its current status as one of the world’s most sought-after luxury destinations, Gómez has spent decades at the centre of The White Isle’s evolving tourism landscape – observing, understanding and envisioning a future that continues to elevate the guest experience while honouring the island’s heritage.
2026 sees the Matutes Group and Palladium Hotels continue their stellar trajectory with the unveiling of their most ambitious project to date; a lifestyle destination that integrates hospitality, retail, gastronomy, art, wellness and entertainment in one destination: The Site Ibiza.
Bringing together two five-star hotels with distinct identities – the Mediterranean chic BLESS Ibiza The Site and the contemporary and experiential The Unexpected Ibiza Hotel – the idea is to offer island visitors different ways to experience Ibiza within the same universe. Part of this concept and resort is also IBIZA Gallery, which represents a new generation of experiential retail on the island, a space where fashion, art, culture, gastronomy, and lifestyle converge to become a cosmopolitan meeting point.
Bringing together renowned international brands such as Chloé, Rick Owens, Missoni, Roberto Cavalli, Jil Sander, Aesop, and Technogym alongside artistic showcases led by Cardi Gallery, and gastronomic experiences curated by names such as Gordon Ramsay, Dabiz Muñoz, Dani García and COYA, IBIZA Gallery sets a new milestone on the island.
“Ibiza has always been an island ahead of its time. When I first began experiencing it almost five decades ago, luxury had nothing to do with price or exclusivity; it was about freedom, authenticity, and the possibility of being yourself. Today, the island has evolved into a world-leading premium destination, with an extraordinary hospitality and gastronomic offering, but I believe the essence remains the same: the unique energy Ibiza transmits,” Danny says.
“Hospitality has evolved from being more spontaneous and intuitive into a highly professionalized industry, where attention to detail, personalized experiences, and operational excellence are fundamental. But the important thing is never to forget that true luxury is still emotional.”
While Ibiza’s pivot towards an increasingly luxury image and premium pricepoints is undeniable, as a respected voice in the tourism industry Danny is very mindful in his approach when it comes to selecting brand partnerships and crafting new customer experiences.
When asked how he balances change with preserving the authentic soul of the island, he says, “By listening carefully and observing constantly. Innovation is necessary, but it cannot be built while ignoring the identity of the place where you work. In Ibiza, there are things that cannot be artificially manufactured: the light, the energy, the cultural mix, the sea, the traditions… My philosophy has always been to evolve without disguising the island. Modernise, yes; lose authenticity, no.
“Balance is key. Ibiza should aspire to excellence, but without losing its diversity or soul. The island has always attracted very different kinds of people precisely because it offered something authentic and unique. If everything becomes homogeneous or excessively elitist, there is a risk of disconnecting from the essence that made Ibiza so special.
“I believe the island’s sustainable future lies in prioritising quality over quantity, creating experiences with real value, and promoting conscious tourism that respects the environment and local culture.”
Indeed, for Danny, some of the best experiences to be had on the island are still free. One of his favourite pastimes is to explore Ibiza on two wheels, immersing himself in nature.
“One of my greatest passions is mountain biking. I have spent many years enjoying the island’s routes, and I genuinely believe it is one of the best ways to discover its true essence. Ibiza has a spectacular interior that many people still do not know: rural paths, pine forests, cliffs, trails by the sea, and small routes crossing absolutely magical places. When you ride a bike, you connect with a much more authentic, quiet, and natural Ibiza; very different from the island’s more publicised image.
“For me, it is also a way to disconnect, organise my thoughts, and stay connected to the territory and nature. There are moments cycling around the island at sunrise or sunset when you completely understand why Ibiza has such a special energy.
“I also believe sport will play an increasingly important role in Ibiza’s future. The island offers unique conditions to combine wellness, active tourism, nature, and lifestyle, creating very interesting opportunities to continue evolving the destination beyond the traditional season.”
Authenticity is another word that comes up in our conversation time and time again; an immeasurable yet crucial value by which Danny assesses and curates the collaborations that will be integrated into his projects.
“A partnership cannot be purely aesthetic or commercial. It must bring something real to the customer while respecting both the brand identity and the spirit of Ibiza. I also value creativity, excellence, and deep respect for the human team behind every project,” he explains.
This innate appreciation stems from the early days of his own career, when he started out as a hotel receptionist at the Palladium Hotel Group.
“A hotel reception desk is an extraordinary school because it teaches you how to listen, solve problems, manage emotions, and understand that every guest is different. You also learn humility. In hospitality, no role is insignificant. Everyone contributes to the overall experience. To this day, I still believe the success of a hospitality company depends enormously on the people working on the front line,” Danny says.
Amidst the heady whirlwind of five-star hotels and world-class restaurants, luxury fashion and high octane nightlife, his recipe for success is based on simple yet non-negotiable values: consistency and passion for detail. “And above all, understanding that hospitality remains a deeply human business,” Danny adds. “True luxury today is authenticity, well-executed simplicity, personalisation, and genuine care.”
Perhaps most impressively, after decades at the top of the game he has not lost sight of what the real Ibiza is all about.
“Freedom, diversity, and human connection. Ibiza has always been a place where people from all over the world come seeking inspiration, happiness, or simply a different way of living. The real Ibiza cannot be explained; it is something you feel.”
