Uner lands in Ibiza after a long month’s well-deserved holidays. His first stop: Lovin Ibiza Festival in Ushuaia

The last months of last summer were very tiring, so it was high time to have a break. I spent a whole month at home in Lerida, listening to the frogs croak.” For the past three seasons Uner has been one of the most acclaimed Spanish DJs and producers on the international stage as well as being someone who is very popular and in high demand on the island. “I’m very happy with the way my career has taken off, but what makes me even happier is the audience’s love and warmth. Just the other day for example, as I was on my way here, people were greeting me and shouting out in the street: “Uneeer!” That’s one of the things that make me happier.

Uner is going to be playing a lot on the island this year. It is going to be his most intense year. “On top of performing at the opening of Ushuaia, I’ll be forming part of Antz, the new concept focused more on underground sounds which is going to be held on Saturdays. I’m also playing at Pacha, at the Insane parties by John Digweed and I will be making appearances with Solomun at Dynamic Neon Nights in Sankeys.” It comes as no surprise that he will also be accompanying his friend Carl Cox at Space for the fourth consecutive year. And there is no question that Uner has managed to rope the island’s main DJs into it too. Besides being a wanderer á la Luciano, this summer he is also going to become part of the world of Cocoon. In July he’s releasing his first EP on Sven Väth’s label. “I didn’t know Sven until last year. I went to Amnesia with Carl Cox one night to see him play and we bumped into him at the door of the club. He said to me, “I can’t believe your Visionquest record wasn’t for Cocoon.” And I said: “It was, but your ex-A&R didn’t reply to me. He said straight away: “I want a record by Uner on my label!” No sooner said than done. “There was an instant connection and I am very happy to be working with him.”

So, what are the challenges facing Uner now? “The next step is going to be editing my first album. I’ve been working hard on it. It’s a mix of electronic with acoustic sounds. I would also like to take on the challenge of forming a band. In addition, I have other plans to bring out a new live record of dance floor tracks at the end of September as well as starting a new record label. And what’s more, I aim to become a dad. We’re working on it.” As an expert on the island, Uner is clear in his approach. He believes Ibiza offers all sorts of opportunities and much as he recommends going out to the clubs, he also suggests exploring other aspects of the island. “I love food so I would recommend eating out in restaurants. I’m addicted to one in particular: Yemanja. I love it! I ask for a sea bass and it’s so big it doesn’t fit on the table. You ask for a small “mojito”… and they bring you a tankard! It’s a great place. I was also recently taken to La Maria, next to Es Vedra. I had an amazing paella. Furthermore, it’s a beautiful spot and there’s no mobile phone coverage: it’s paradise.”
