It was THE wedding of the year in Ibiza. The celebrations, which took place in the first week in July, started on the Thursday evening before the nuptials with a pre-wedding party held at Sa Talaia Country Hotel, the former summer residence of the Matutes family.

IBIZASTYLE_LINDAABEL-001The marriage ceremony was conducted in Ibiza cathedral. Here, Abel Matutes, son of the former Spanish Foreign Minister Abel Matutes, tied the knot with Linda Scaperotto from Philadelphia (USA). They were married by the Bishop of Ibiza, Vicente Juan Segura, and Pope Benedict sent a telegram of personal greetings to the bride and groom, which was read out during the service.

500 guests were invited to the wedding from the world of politics, the aristocracy and the family’s circle of friends, including former Prime Minister of Spain José María Aznar, accompanied by his wife Ana Botella, President of the Partido Popular Mariano Rajoy, with his wife, and former Minister of the Interior Jaime Mayor Oreja, also accompanied by his wife.

At 6pm on the dot, on one of the hottest days of the month, Abel Matutes junior was waiting at the altar. His bride, however, kept everyone waiting – 20 minutes to be precise. The cathedral clock struck 7pm as the couple confirmed their vows.

After the church ceremony, the newly married couple served their wedding guests cocktails at the Baluarte de Sant Bernat. At around 8pm, guests started arriving at the Palladium Palace (part of the Fiesta Group) where they were offered an aperitif in the Portofino Restaurant situated on the beach next to the Torre de sa Sal Rossa, before being summoned to the wedding breakfast. The menu was created by chefs at the Palladium Palace under the guidance of Spanish celebrity chef José Mari Arzak. After the wedding cake had been cut and handed out, the dancing began. For everyone still on their feet at sunrise, there was ‘chocolate con churros’ on the beach.

It was a glamorous and glittering party for all. IBIZA & FORMENTERA STYLE congratulate the happy couple and wish them all the best for their future together.
