Talking to Ibiza Style, Stephen tells us that it was actually a passion for music which first brought him to the island in 2000 with a business plan based around promoting one of the first music download sites, www.deo.com, and he went on to set up an online radio station, www.ibizamusica.com, working closely with Javier and the family from Mambo, the legendary sunset bar in San Antonio. In 2001, he helped to establish a recording studio which became the location for the BBC Radio 1 Live broadcasts from Pete Tong.
Having been sailing since the age of 7 in the slightly coolers waters around South Devon, Stephens natural skill for boating came in useful as yet another of his assets, and he began running regular charter trips with some of Mambo’s big name DJ’s, including Roger Sanchez and Erick Morillo, who he would be working with in the studio at night, then sailing them over to Juan Y Andreas for lunch the next day!
He met his soon to be business partner Carly in 2002, and their partnership quickly developed into a successful charter business, combining their natural talents and backgrounds in catering and sailing and using their network of contacts to establish IbizaMed in 2003.
Since then, the company has grown from strength to strength and now prides itself on offering one of the widest ranges of speedboats, motor boats and glamorous sailing yachts, catering for groups of up to 300 people. Another string to their bow is their excellent event management service, using their valuable knowledge of the island, they are able to organise corporate or private events for up to 300 people, whether it’s a wedding party, product launch or birthday extravaganza, IbizaMed have got it covered.
IbizaMed are also able to assist in chartering superyachts and megayachts to cope with demand for the luxury market because of the new 60 metre + superyacht marina in Ibiza Town. The company have access to the largest yachts in the world and can offer support to captains and crew for berthing, provisioning and repairs plus all the concierge services their guests require during their visit to Ibiza..
During the quieter winter months, the company also run a sea school, in conjunction with the Royal Yachting Association, enabling aspiring captains to benefit from their years of expertise on Ibiza’s waters. Whatever your level of experience, there is a course to suit you. RYA courses take place at the new Marina Ibiza, and clients can choose to learn on their 7.5m Scorpion RIB or on their own boat. Stephen is a RYA Yachtmaster Instructor for Motor vessels up to 200 Gross Tons.
It would be impossible for us to list all of the many charter options offered by Ibiza Med, but it’s safe to say that there will be something to suit the most discerning of clients.
