Stars of the music industry often get plaudits and acclaim that are not always worthy. When it comes it to Trevor Horn however every single accolade, award and piece of adulation is so very much deserved. Known as ‘the man who invented the 80s’ thanks to his productions for The Pet Shop Boys, The Art of Noise, Malcolm McLaren & The World Famous Supreme Team, Grace Jones, ABC, Seal, Robbie Williams, Live Aid, Tina Turner, t.A.T.u. and his record label ZTT…next to Stock Aitken Waterman, Trevor Horn was King Midas throughout the halcyon MTV years. A visionary who in that crazy decade also saw hip hop as becoming the black rock ‘n’ roll working with McLaren to produce the groundbreaking ‘Buffalo Gals’ and the album ‘Duck Rock’.

“It was amazing what I heard in New York in 1982. I’d never heard music like that before with people actually physically manipulating records. I knew it was kind of out there, I was feeling Afrika Bambaataa and those sort of guys and when I met them they were so ghetto but also had a feeling of being a bit more free. Free in a way that hadn’t been seen before. It’s funny, when we were doing ‘Buffalo Gals’ I flew The World Famous Supreme Team over to London and I got to talk to them a lot. I‘d never met anyone who spoke like that before. They kept saying things like ‘that’s really bad man’ and I was that dumb I had to say ‘hang on a minute is that bad bad or is that good bad? Just let me know because I’m getting confused.

Trevor says that he loves this island, he’s here primarily to deliver his Keynote Interview at the IMS Summit and then will return later in the season for some live dates with his band The Producers. “I’ve been here three times before, the last time I was working with Seal and we set up the studio in a suite at Pikes for a couple of weeks. I do love Ibiza, the whole vibe, the beaches and sunsets are just incredible.
