A few years ago, Elisabetta, Caraccia who’s originally from Italy, together with her partner of nineteen years, Hollywood actor Ray Stevenson, totally revamped a former run-down site close to Ses Salinas Natural Park, the area of special cultural and physical significance, into a boutique eco-retreat. “We just kind of stumbled across it” she tells me. The spirit at The Boutique Hostal La Curandera De Salinas, celebrates nature, family, music, and at its core imbues the amazing couples love for life, the planet and its protection. As an environmental activist and member of the Ibiza Preservation Fund, Elisabetta has an innate understanding of this.

How are you feeling?, I slowly ask her. “Our three boys were eight, twelve and fifteen when it happened. Ray’s essence is here with us in Ibiza more than ever”. Her beloved partner, the incredible Hollywood actor and father passed away unexpectedly one year ago. Ray Stevenson portrayed Baylan Skoll in the Ahsoka (Star Wars) television series, as well as appearing in many other action and adventure films. “He was our gentle giant. His essence was greater than life. In 2019, he tattooed on his forearm the symbol of the Celtic Warrior, with one foot in this world and one in the other. And he is managing exactly that. We still feel him, he’s always with us, guiding us… he even helps us find a parking spot” says inspirational Elisabetta with a giggle. “We are getting ready for a special celebration in his honour called The Ray of Light Awards. It was actually all Ray’s idea, he wanted to create a film and TV festival in Ibiza”.

When Elisabetta first met Ray Stevenson who is Northern Irish- English by descent in 2004, he was living in London but had been in Italy filming the historical drama TV series Rome (produced by the BBC and HBO). “I was his apartment landlady at the time” she said smiling. The encounter led to them becoming proud parents to three boys. “We knew we didn’t want to raise our kids in a city, but we didn’t want to be isolated. Ibiza was like the missing piece of the puzzle. By the time he was four, Sebastiano was speaking four languages! Italian with me, English with his father, Spanish with his friends and he went to a French school”.

Hostal Salinas has become an extension of their family home, a space for positive affirmations and is a shining example of creativity and social responsibility on the island. “We gave it a whole face lift. There’s eleven bedrooms and each was carefully reinvented with recycling and up-cycling by eleven artists chosen out of thirty local artists, during an up-cycling event competition in November 2021. They have the same mindset as us, respect for Mother Nature… putting human creativity and talents at her service”. The future existence gifted to the unwanted and old broken objects evokes a refreshing and soulful experience at the Ibiza retreat – not to mention the kids play area and stream pool.

n addition to sustainable accommodation, Elisabetta’s place is a beautiful community with a wonderful menu of healing services such as deep massage, reflexology, Reiki, and sound healing to therapeutic tarot, astrology readings, shamanic healing, and yoga classes. During the day, guests can enjoy a relaxing meditative experience inside the gardens sacred Tipi and by night some live oriental music accompanied by the best cous cous you’ll ever try, by Fatima Boughaza, the amazing chef that comes directly from kitchen of the King of Morocco. Elisabetta tells me about the women’s meditation circle she inherited over ten years ago. “I started to sit in Valerie’s circle once a week. It was one Wednesday when she was found in bed, with a big smile on her face.. her hands up in the air.. she had flown away. The following Wednesday us women met in her Tipi at Santa Gertrudis like.. we can’t let this circle go, just because Valerie is gone. Since then, the circle is under my supervision. Every Wednesday at 12 noon, it’s for free, no need to reserve, we are open to everyone and from this year, even to men. It’s beautiful to feel the balance in between male and female energies in a circle, when the egos are removed from the equation”.

The Anthropologist, busy mother, retreat founder, island sister, founder of The Ray Of Light Awards and so much more, loves to welcome people from all walks of life into her holistic bubble, although, she’s more connected to native American indigenous people, in comparison to westernised societies and their excessive buying culture. On the challenges of running a sustainable business and lifestyle she says “I love the planet, of course, I have travelled so much, but I admit it’s challenging. If you want organic ingredients from local suppliers, often it’s not one that can bring it, you have to contact several, so it can be more expensive. It’s sad when fruit and vegetables are transported across the world; we have raw ingredients our island produces. Sure, it’s easier to buy from big distributors and big corporations, compared to finding a local producer or craftsperson and perhaps waiting for your piece to be made, but it pays off to be patient. The vibration it carries is incomparable to something mass produced. Ibiza is lucky to have so many wonderful Artisans and they all struggle to survive…like all Artisans around the world. If people would source from what’s around them, we’d create a better environment for everyone”.

I heard a whisper that Ibiza veterans often say they feel the real essence of the island at Hostal Salinas, which can be hard to come by in the South…I could not agree more.
