A short time ago I was in Las Vegas and drove past the world famous Sands Casino. In the 1950s, great performers such as Frank Sinatra and Ray Charles appeared there, and I thought it would be the perfect name for our restaurant,” explains Jason Bull who, together with his partners Max Leverett and Jeremy Bussey, also runs the successful Boho Club in Sant Antoni and the Hotel Es Vivé.
The Argentine head chef Luciano Scaradaccione, who also has Italian roots, looks at the sea and explains, “I get my inspiration from the sea’s energy. My dishes, with their fusion of Thai, Japanese and Mediterranean cuisine, send our guests on a journey of the senses.” The tuna fillet with a crispy sesame crust and wasabi mayonnaise, the cod in a light tempura batter and the tender fillet of beef provide all the evidence you need that Luciano has a highly professional team, and that the seasoning, texture and decoration of each of his dishes are finely attuned to one another. The last stage of this sensually exciting journey is made up of an array of desserts that includes an excellent brownie with creamy strawberry ice cream, baked bananas in puff pastry baskets, strawberries with a balsamic sauce and a stunning cheesecake with fruits of the forest. The Ibiza-Style team were able to experience for themselves the excellent quality of these dishes, and we were amazed by the sensational value for money. Bon vivants will find a wide range of fine Spanish and Italian wines from designated regions on the wine list. A particular cocktail speciality is the frozen cucumber mojito. After a delicious meal, guests can relax on loungers on the beach or in the Balinese-style pavilions. For complete relaxation, there are various massages on offer.
“Every day, from 1pm to 5pm, our resident DJs Ben Santiago, Stefan and Diego play their sets. After that, various well-known DJs provide the background music. On Mondays, we have the Swedish House Mafia and on Tuesday Tom Novy guests, and occasionally Pete Tong comes to indulge the audience with a set. On 5th August, in parallel with the popular New York Kiss & Fly party, Behrouz will also be playing his music. In the near future, we are expecting Carl Cox to be doing a few really special sessions with funk and jazz influences, too,” says Alex Pascual. Behind the DJ console is a boutique which stocks beachwear, clothes and fashionable swimwear.
Yachties are ferried across from their boats in the Zodiac, or the catering department will deliver on board any food and drink you wish. In addition to all of this, the Sands offers a VIP package for 100 euros, which includes a lounger, a fruit platter and a bottle of champagne. “The kitchen actually closes at 8pm, but if anyone wants to hold a private party or a wedding here, we prepare special menus and the kitchen stays open later,” adds Alex. Together with Dachi, she runs the friendly team at the Sands. Her charming smile reinforces the impression that the Sands team will make every effort to attend to the needs of their guests – always with a sense of style and an unmistakable lightness of touch.
