When breakfasting at El Chiringuito, Es Cavallet, you do not have to come dressed as party girl Holly Golightly in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, looking a million dollars in an elegant evening dress but you can if you like. Well, you might just be returning from a long night spent partying, and this beach gets the morning sun, bathing the sea and the passing ships in a soft light. Formentera across the water glistens in the early morn, and a tasty, healthy breakfast is just what’s needed to set you up for the day.
El Chiringuito proprietors Jonathan Thorogood and wife Olivia told us about their latest development down on the beach: “Olivia and I really enjoy having breakfast out somewhere, but we have yet to find anywhere that totally suits us, and so we set about creating our own special breakfast spot here on this beautiful beach where you can watch the sunrise. We have worked with our new chef Jérome to devise a breakfast menu that is both healthy and delicious, whilst not forgetting the tastes of different nationalities, and so there are specialities to cater for Spaniards, French and English. Juices that arrive freshly squeezed at your table and smoothies form the basis of a good breakfast, but we also have a large range of speciality coffees and teas, fruit salads with yoghurt, mueslis and homemade pancakes with blueberries and maple syrup. Our chef is French, so home-made patisserie is a definite must, and the croissants and delicious pastries are all fresh from our oven. The farmhouse bread is simply delicious, whether with tomatoes and olive oil or with Manchego. It’s very good too with the sweet Italian ham, you should try it some time. Or maybe you prefer the classic ‘ham and eggs’ or Eggs Benedict, poached eggs on toast with freshly made Hollandaise sauce. So as you see, we can certainly offer something for everyone. And finally, we must not forget to mention, we have an amazing selection of ice creams.”
